What Story Keeper trains
Story Keeper trains listening memory and understanding: following a story, keeping the details and putting events in order.
Why it matters for a grade-3 child
Grade 3 is when reading shifts from learning to read to reading to learn, and understanding what you heard or read becomes the main skill. Remembering who, what, where and in what order is the backbone of retelling and comprehension.
How to play
- Listen and watch: a story in four pictures is read aloud.
- Keep the story in mind: who, what, where, how many.
- Answer the questions by tapping a picture.
Bip reads every instruction aloud and shows a 3-second demo first, so children who don’t read yet can play too.
How it adapts to your child
Story Keeper has levels from 1 to 100. Two right answers in a row make it a little harder; one mistake makes it a bit easier. That keeps your child at about 80% success: hard, but I can do it.
- Level 1 2 questions per story.
- Level 25 3 questions.
- Level 35 "Which happened first?" questions about the order of events.
- Level 55 4 questions per story.
- Level 70 Some scenes are only heard, not shown: listen carefully!
- Level 85 5 questions.
Stories are built from many pieces, so there is always a new one. Answers are pictures, so pre-readers can play.
Tip: play it together
After a round, ask your child to retell the story in their own words. At bedtime, ask two questions about the book you just read. Retelling is one of the best comprehension exercises there is, and it costs nothing.
